Mermaid Birthday Card

Doesn’t it feel great to give? I grew up hearing the words, “it is better to give than to receive!” And, I am now at a point in my life where I truly understand this.

For me, it is not about the thanks and praises that usually follow. It is all about the smiles, the warming of hearts and the feeling of knowing I did something great for someone else with no expectations to receive in return. (This is my own truth in life, as “corny”as it sounds).

Well, I am still on a high from a long Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. I spent lots of quiet time with family and managed to sneak in a bit of work— well more like doing the thing that I love. This mermaid birthday card is one of the creations I was able to finish and yes— give away/gift to a special little who girl celebrated her birthday.

There is not a lot of embellishing  used. I kept the design quite simple and in line with my now apparent style of cards— simple with special touches. The focus is on the mermaid and her  surroundings underwater. I really enjoyed working on this piece with touches of hand coloring over digital image. Totally brought out the kid in me!! I added dimension and depth to this card with some good old-fashioned color pencils.

A little bit of shimmer and shine for this mermaid’s ‘tale’ with some glitter and clear glossy accents, all resting on soft blue patterned paper with touches of red and fun pink lettering. An absolutely fun card to wish a little lady an awesome birthday filled with a sea full of wishes. (No pun intended!)  🙂

So, for this week, try the gift of giving, then tell me all about it— pay it forward!
